“The most dangerous leadership myth is that leaders are born…” — Warren Bennis

The LEAP Institute for the Arts Master of Arts Leadership and Cultural Management residential and online program responds to an increased demand for graduates who can provide leadership and organization to the arts; graduates who have the skills and confidence to bridge the arts with applied administration skills. It can be argued that the demand for leaders in the arts community, who can provide vision and entrepreneurship, financial and budgetary skills, advocacy for their art and an understanding of events management and promotion, including marketing, has never been greater. In addition, the demand for people who can use their creative talents continues to grow outside the world of arts and non-profits; a creative mind is a valuable asset to any workplace and graduates will have the confidence that they can apply their skills to opportunities throughout the non-profit and for-profit sectors of our quickly changing economy.

The LEAP graduate program curriculum is includes a 23 credit core curriculum of the fundamentals of arts leadership and cultural management. Students also take a minimum of 9 credits of approved electives toward the 32 credit total to customize their track to focus on their desired field of study; entrepreneurship, management, communications, etc. In addition, students are required to have 2 semester long internships hosted by local, regional and national arts organizations. Our students have interned at the Atlanta Ballet, Opera Fort Collins, OpenStage Theatre, KRFC, among others.

To better serve students who may not be able to attend courses at our Fort Collins, Colorado campus, CSU Online offers the same degree program 100% online. Students still apply to the program using the same application requirements as residential degree seeking students. Online courses are also available to residential students who prefer an online delivery due to out of state internships, work and family conflicts with class schedules, etc.
